Can you have a root canal during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and have suddenly developed severe toothache. My dentist says I might need a root canal, but I'm worried about the baby. Can a root canal procedure be safely performed when someone is pregnant?

My wife had a terrible toothache in her second trimester and we were terrified of the dentist. But the doctor laughed and said keeping a rotting tooth is worse than the treatment. She got the root canal done smoothly, so don't suffer in pain!

Yes, you can, especially during the second trimester which is considered the safest time. Dentists use specific pregnancy-safe local anesthetics and protective shields for X-rays. Just make sure to inform both your dentist and gynecologist before starting.

I actually had a root canal done in my fifth month of pregnancy just a few weeks ago. My dentist and gynecologist coordinated, used a safe local anesthesia, and put a lead apron on me for the X-ray. It was completely safe and such a relief.

When my daughter-in-law had tooth pain during her pregnancy, we tried clove oil and warm salt water rinses for temporary relief. But the infection was deep, so she had to get a root canal. Do not worry, dental treatments are very advanced now and safe for the baby.

Yes, dental health is very important as oral infections can affect the overall body. If your doctor advises a root canal, go ahead with peace of mind and practice deep, gentle breathing to keep yourself calm during the dental procedure.
