Can you get postpartum depression during pregnancy?

I'm currently pregnant with my first child, and while I'm excited, I'm also feeling a lot of anxiety and mood swings that feel more intense than normal. I've heard of postpartum depression, but can you get postpartum depression while you are still pregnant?

Let's be accurate here—depression during pregnancy is called prenatal depression, not postpartum. Don't rely on random advice from internet forums for mental health issues. Go see a qualified psychiatrist or your OB-GYN to get the right medical support.

I completely understand how terrifying it feels to experience deep sadness when you are expecting. While postpartum technically means after birth, depression during pregnancy is very real and called prenatal depression. You are not alone, please talk to someone.

Actually, clinical depression can begin during pregnancy, and it is referred to as antenatal or prenatal depression. The hormonal shifts are massive even before birth. It is highly recommended to consult your healthcare provider rather than waiting for it to pass.

If you are feeling very low or anxious during these months, don't keep it to yourself. Try to talk to your family openly and seek professional counseling. Getting a therapist is very practical and can help you cope before the baby arrives.

Yes, I felt extremely low and cried constantly during my second trimester, which I later learned was prenatal depression. It is so similar to postpartum depression in how it feels. Please be kind to yourself and reach out to a doctor for help.

Actually, prenatal depression is quite common, yaar. People only talk about postpartum, but the struggle can start during the pregnancy months itself because of all the hormones and life changes. Definitely talk to your gynac about this.
