Managing hormonal issues like PCOS has made me extra cautious about chemical exposure. While many say highlights are fine after the first trimester because the dye doesn't touch the scalp directly, it is always best to double-check with your gynecologist.
I can only share what I did during my own pregnancy last year. I chose to wait until my second trimester and opted for ammonia-free highlights where they didn't touch my scalp at all. It went completely fine for me.
My wife's pregnancy tracking app had a whole section on this. It suggested waiting until the second trimester when the baby's organs are fully formed, and ensuring the salon is extremely well-ventilated to avoid inhaling fumes.
Look, why take unnecessary risks with strong chemical fumes when you are pregnant? Better to wait a few months until the delivery is done, or at least ask your gynaecologist clearly before booking that salon appointment.
Just like keeping your diet clean and organic during pregnancy is crucial, minimizing chemical exposure is also important. If you must get highlights, try to choose organic or vegetable-based hair dyes and make sure the salon isn't stuffy.

Since metabolic health and external chemical exposures are closely linked, especially during pregnancy, you must proceed with caution. Please consult your obstetrician first to ensure any salon products used are completely safe for your specific health condition.
