Can you get fmla for pregnancy?

My sister-in-law is pregnant and recently had some complications that required her to take extended leave from work. Her company is being difficult about it. In India, can you get FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) equivalent leave for pregnancy-related issues?

I was so confused about leaves when I got pregnant. In India, we have the Maternity Benefit Act which gives you 26 weeks of paid leave, which is even better than FMLA! I panicked for nothing, HR sorted it out easily.

I am working for a US-based company from India, so does FMLA apply to me or will I get Indian maternity leaves? I am a bit confused and too shy to ask my manager directly yet.

FMLA is a US law, so if you are working in India, you are covered under the Indian Maternity Benefit Act instead. Don't rely on random internet forums for legal policies, please check your company handbook and talk to your HR directly.

Oh, please make sure you apply for your leaves well in advance! I've heard some companies make it so difficult if you don't submit medical certificates on time. I hope your pregnancy is going smoothly and safely.

Haan na, FMLA is for US people mostly. In India, we get full 6 months paid leave under government rules, ho na. Just talk to your HR once, they will give you the form and process easily.
