Can you gain weight with overactive thyroid?

I was recently diagnosed with an overactive thyroid, and while I expected to lose weight, I've actually gained a little. Is it possible to gain weight with an overactive thyroid, or am I misunderstanding something?

Normally hyperthyroidism makes you lose weight, but my classmate actually gained some weight because her appetite shot up crazy high. It is super confusing but it happens!

I totally get it, thyroid struggles are so exhausting and unpredictable. While weight loss is common with an overactive thyroid, individual bodies react differently. Please don't be hard on yourself.

Yes, hormonal imbalances can cause unexpected weight changes. Practicing gentle pranayama like Ujjayi can help soothe your endocrine system while you follow your doctor's treatment.

It is rare but absolutely possible. If your thyroid medication dosage is slightly off during treatment, it can transition you into hypothyroidism, causing quick weight gain. Get a fresh T3/T4/TSH test done.

Honestly, thyroid issues are so weird. Here I am barely sleeping and putting on weight just by looking at a samosa. Yes, an overactive thyroid can sometimes trigger huge cravings leading to weight gain.

Yes, you can! Even though it usually causes weight loss, some people feel so hungry that they eat more and gain weight. Stay positive and get your blood levels checked! 😊
