Can you eat oysters during pregnancy?

We're going out to a fancy dinner tonight, and oysters are on the menu. I'm pregnant, and I'm not sure if they are safe to eat, whether raw or cooked, during this time.

Honestly, it is safer to skip raw oysters right now! Cooked ones are okay if they are fully done, but raw shellfish can have nasty bacteria. Better to enjoy some safe cooked fish instead 🐠 Stay happy and healthy!

I am also quite confused about this whole seafood thing during pregnancy. Is it true that we have to avoid all raw shellfish entirely, even if we buy from a very premium place? Pls let me know what your elders suggested.

My wife's gynecologist strictly advised against eating any raw or undercooked seafood, including raw oysters. They can carry Vibrio bacteria which is very dangerous during pregnancy. If you really want oysters, they must be boiled or baked thoroughly until the shells open, but avoiding them completely is the safest bet.

I totally get the cravings, but please don't risk eating raw oysters right now. I had to strictly control my cravings for sushi and raw seafood last year when I was expecting. Just hold on for a few more months, your health is way more important!

Think of it this way, you are giving your future baby a break from fancy exotic food for now! Keep the raw oysters on your post-delivery celebratory menu. For now, stick to normal ghar ka cooked food and treat yourself to some safe desserts instead.
