Can you eat mozzarella cheese during pregnancy?

My husband made a delicious pizza last night with mozzarella cheese. I'm pregnant and heard some cheeses are not safe to eat during this time. Is mozzarella okay to have while expecting?

Yes, you can eat mozzarella, thankfully! My pregnant wife had me running to the store at midnight for pizza cheese. Just make sure the packet says it is made from pasteurized milk, which almost all commercial brands in India are.

Mozzarella cheese is generally safe if pasteurized, but please remember it can be high in sodium and saturated fats. If you are monitoring your blood pressure during pregnancy, eat it in moderation and keep up with your regular clinic checkups.

Don't just believe people saying all cheese is safe. Raw or unpasteurized mozzarella can carry Listeria, which is very dangerous. Always check the ingredient label for the word 'pasteurized' and verify with your doctor if you have any doubts.

In my experience, my wife ate baked mozzarella on homemade pizzas throughout her pregnancy and had no issues at all. Baking or cooking the cheese at high temperatures adds an extra layer of safety, which gave us peace of mind.

I completely understand the anxiety of constantly checking food labels during pregnancy, it is honestly so exhausting. Rest assured, pasteurized mozzarella is completely safe to eat. Enjoy your food and try not to worry too much.
