Can you eat before pregnancy ultrasound?

I have my first pregnancy ultrasound next week. I remember hearing that you shouldn't eat before some scans. Is this true for all ultrasounds during pregnancy?

When my wife went for her early pregnancy scans, the clinic told her she could eat normally. The main thing they insisted on was drinking lots of water to keep the bladder full. Check with your lab once, but food is usually fine.

I have my 12-week scan tomorrow and I am so anxious about whether I can eat a proper breakfast or not. Some people say a full stomach is bad, but others say you should eat so the baby moves. Did anyone else get confused by this before their scan?

For most pregnancy ultrasounds, eating is completely fine and won't affect the scan. However, for certain specific scans, they might ask you to avoid very heavy meals. It is always best to follow the written instructions given by your doctor's clinic.

I suggest having a light, easily digestible vegetarian meal before going, like some poha or oats. Heavy, greasy foods can cause gas, which sometimes makes it slightly harder to get super clear images of the baby. Keep it simple and healthy.

My dear, for almost all routine pregnancy scans, you can eat your meals normally. The only major requirement is often to have a full bladder in the early months. Do have a light breakfast so you don't feel dizzy during the wait, and drink water as instructed.

Going for pregnancy scans can bring up so many emotions and anxieties, especially if you've had a tough journey. Eating a light, comforting meal beforehand is absolutely fine and might help you feel more grounded. Take care of yourself, everything will be okay.
