Can you do sit ups during pregnancy?

My fitness instructor said some exercises should be avoided during pregnancy. I'm wondering about sit-ups. Is it safe to do sit-ups during pregnancy, especially in the later months?

Personally, I would never risk doing sit-ups while pregnant without checking with a doctor first. Any exercise that puts direct pressure on your abdominal wall needs to be strictly evaluated by your gynecologist to ensure baby's safety.

My wife's doctor told her to stop doing sit-ups right from the first trimester. He said lying flat on your back after a certain point can block blood flow, plus it strains the abs too much. She switched to light prenatal stretches instead.

I just had my baby recently, and I can tell you sit-ups are a big no during pregnancy. They put too much strain on your abdominal midline, which can lead to severe muscle separation. Stick to safe prenatal-approved core moves.

Please be very careful. I had minor spotting during my early pregnancy, and my doctor immediately put me on bed rest and banned all core-straining movements like sit-ups. Do not start any such exercise without your doctor's explicit clearance.

When my daughter was pregnant, her doctor advised keeping exercises very gentle, especially since we monitor blood sugar closely. Sit-ups are too intense and can strain the abdominal area unnecessarily. Walking and light yoga are much safer options.
