Can wrong shoes cause knee pain?

I've started going for long walks every morning to stay active, but my knees have been hurting lately. My friend suggested it might be my old shoes. Can wearing the wrong type of shoes actually cause knee pain?

Yes, flat or worn-out footwear ruins your body's balance and strains the knees. You can massage your knees with warm mustard oil and do light stretching for relief. But if there is swelling or severe pain when walking, please don't rely on home remedies and visit a doctor.

Take it from my experience, beta. I used to wear hard leather shoes to work for decades and ended up with terrible knee issues. The moment I shifted to soft, cushioned shoes with proper arch support, my pain reduced significantly. Don't compromise on your footwear quality.

My orthopedist at AMRI Hospital told me that wrong shoes are one of the most common causes of knee and lower back pain. He advised me to get my gait checked to see if I need special insoles. Please consult an orthopedic doctor before the joint strain gets worse.

You don't need to buy those extremely expensive imported shoes. Just go to any local store and get a decent pair of walking shoes with a thick, flexible sole and good heel cushioning. Even adding a cheap silicone gel insole to your current shoes can make a big difference.

Hundred percent. If you are running or working out in flat-soled sneakers, you are basically destroying your knees. Invest in a proper pair of running shoes designed for your foot type, and you will see the pain vanish in a week.

Absolutely true. Flat heels or shoes without any shock absorption directly impact your knee joints with every step you take.
