Can weight gain cause hair loss?

Over the past year, I've put on quite a bit of weight, maybe 8-10 kgs. Lately, I've also noticed my hair thinning a lot, especially near my temples. My friend told me that sometimes weight gain can affect hair, is that true?

Weight gain and hair loss together can be signs of metabolic conditions like thyroid or PCOS. Please don't try self-treating at home. It is much safer to visit a doctor and get a full blood panel done.

Beta, when the body's internal balance is disturbed, it shows on our hair. You can apply mild warm coconut oil with curry leaves, but also look into your diet. Make sure you are eating nutritious home-cooked meals.

Sometimes stress causes both weight gain and hair fall simultaneously. Take care of your mental peace, practice meditation, and eat fresh fruits. Have faith and consult a good doctor.

I ignored sudden weight gain and massive hair fall, thinking it was just work stress. It turned out to be severe insulin resistance and high thyroid levels. Please see an endocrinologist before it gets worse.

I know how devastating it is to watch your hair thin out while struggling with weight gain. It really affects your self-esteem. Please be gentle with yourself and seek medical help to find the root cause.
