Can wearing headphones cause hair loss?

I use headphones for several hours a day, whether for music or gaming. My friends are joking that I'm losing hair because of them. Is it true that wearing headphones can cause hair loss?

If you wear them tightly during workouts, the sweat and friction can break hair strands. I usually prefer light wireless earbuds for my morning walks and runs. It keeps my head cool and avoids any hair pulling.

I ignored my heavy hair fall thinking it was just because of my office headphones, but it turned out to be a scalp infection from trapped sweat. Please see a dermatologist if your scalp feels itchy or if you see bald spots.

Actually, headphones only cause hair fall if the band is constantly sliding and pulling your hair from the roots. Try adjusting the fit or wear them with the band resting slightly backward. It is a very simple fix.

I had this exact doubt because I work from home and wear headphones all day. I noticed some breakage right where the band sits. I switched to using a soft headband underneath and it completely solved the problem for me!

I kept blaming my gaming headphones for my receding hairline and didn't consult anyone for a year. Turns out it was male pattern baldness which needed proper treatment. Don't waste time making excuses, go get it checked by a doctor.

I was researching this yesterday because my hair is thinning on top. Most articles say it is 'traction alopecia' which only happens if the headphones are super heavy and tight. Normal headphones shouldn't cause actual baldness.

Oh, I didn't know headphones could do that. I wear them for online classes daily. Does anyone know if using neckbands or normal in-ear earphones is safer for hair than over-the-ear headphones?

Unless your headphones are made of super glue, they won't pull your hair out! Just don't rip them off your head like you are in an action movie. Relax, your hair is safe.
