Can wearing hair in ponytail cause hair loss?

I tie my hair in a tight ponytail almost every day because of my work. Off late, I've noticed a lot of hair breakage and even some hair loss around my hairline. Can wearing my hair in a tight ponytail cause hair loss?

I always tie my hair in a tight high pony for gym and now my hairline looks so pushed back. Has anyone else noticed their front hair thinning because of this? I am really scared to tie my hair now.

I used to panic seeing so many hair strands on my hair tie every evening! But once I switched to loose scrunchies and stopped pulling it too tight, the hair fall stopped. It is just normal friction breakage, nothing to worry about.

My daughter had this issue from tying her hair tight for school. The doctor said the constant tension damages the roots. Along with changing her hairstyle, we also got her routine health checkup done to ensure her nutrition was on track.

Yes, it absolutely can. It's called traction alopecia and it's caused by constant pulling. Switch to silk scrunchies, wear low ponytails, and never sleep with your hair tied up tight. Keep it loose.

Beta, tying hair too tightly weakens the roots from the front. In our times, we always braided our hair loosely. Apply a little warm almond oil on your scalp once a week and let your hair breathe instead of keeping it bound all day.
