Can water softener cause hair loss?

We recently installed a water softener at home, and around the same time, I've noticed a significant increase in my hair fall. Could there be a connection? Can a water softener cause hair loss?

Actually, a water softener helps prevent hair loss! Hard water has calcium that breaks hair, and installing a softener stops that buildup. Just make sure you wash the slippery feeling off thoroughly so there is no product buildup.

Softened water is actually very friendly for hair health as it doesn't dry out the scalp. Along with using soft water, make sure you eat a protein-rich vegetarian diet with amla and spinach to nourish your hair roots internally.

According to my dermatologist, water softeners replace calcium with sodium ions, which is much gentler on the scalp. He mentioned that softened water won't cause hair loss, though if you don't rinse properly, the slight residue might weigh hair down.

I installed a softener but my hair fall didn't stop, and I later realized I had a severe vitamin D deficiency causing the issue. If you have continuous hair fall despite using soft water, please get blood tests done and see a doctor.

I bought a shower filter last month because I was anxious about going bald, but then I started worrying if the sodium in softened water could damage my roots. But reading up on it, it seems way safer than using raw hard water. Try not to stress!

I totally get it, when you are already dealing with hair thinning, every small change in your shower makes you nervous. But don't worry, a water softener is actually meant to protect your hair from harsh minerals, not cause more shedding.
