Can water cause kidney stones?

My brother recently got kidney stones, and he blames the hard water we drink at home. I'm worried now too, as I drink the same water. Can drinking certain types of water really cause kidney stones?

Actually, drinking *too little* water is the main cause of kidney stones because minerals get concentrated. Drink enough water to keep your urine clear, and stay active with jogging or walking to keep your metabolism functioning well.

I had a 6mm kidney stone last year and the pain was absolutely agonizing, I was crying for hours. I realized I was barely drinking 1 liter of water a day because of busy work hours. Please take care and keep sipping water throughout the day.

Drinking water is the best cure to flush out stones, but if you drink very hard borewell water rich in calcium, it can sometimes contribute to stone formation. Try boiling your water or using a good filter, and have barley water once in a while.

I just found out my father has a tiny kidney stone. Should we stop giving him tap water and switch to bottled mineral water instead, or does mineral water also cause stones? I am a bit confused.

At my age, my body produces stones like a mini quarry if I forget to drink water for a day! It's lack of water that causes them, my friends. Keep drinking water unless you want to feel like you are giving birth to a rock.

Drinking clean, filtered water is essential to prevent stones. You can try having coconut water or lemon water daily as they help break down small crystals, but if you have sharp lower back pain or blood in urine, see a urologist immediately.

My family always says to drink banana stem juice to clear stones. However, my urologist strictly told me that drinking at least 3 liters of purified water daily is the most scientific way to prevent recurrence. Rely on proper medical advice.

Dehydration is the biggest culprit for kidney stones, not the water itself. Unless your tap water has an extreme, unsafe level of mineral contamination, drinking filtered water will prevent stones, not cause them. Keep a bottle handy.
