Can vitamin supplements cause kidney stones?

I've had kidney stones in the past, and I'm very careful about my diet. Now I've started taking some general multivitamin supplements. Can these supplements increase my risk of getting kidney stones again?

Yes, especially if you take too much calcium or Vitamin C. I used to have stone pain and found that drinking lots of water with a squeeze of fresh lemon daily really helps. But first, thoda reduce those heavy synthetic pills and focus on natural fluids.

If you are taking high-strength OTC calcium pills daily, it can happen over time. Honestly, just get a quick blood test done to check your levels. It takes 10 minutes and saves you from unnecessary medical trouble later.

High doses of certain vitamins can definitely increase the risk of stones. Don't try to guess your dosage. Go to a clinic, get a basic kidney function test and urine routine, and let your doctor decide the safe limit.

I actually had a similar doubt when my doctor put me on Vitamin D3 and Calcium. She told me to drink at least 3 liters of water daily so that nothing deposits in the kidneys. Just stay well-hydrated and you should be perfectly fine!

Since I manage my diabetes, I have to be very careful with any extra pills. My nephrologist mentioned that excessive Vitamin C supplements can convert to oxalate and cause stones. It's always safer to ask your doctor before adding supplements to your routine.
