Can vitamin c cause kidney stones?

I've been taking high doses of Vitamin C for a while now to boost my immunity. My father had kidney stones, so I'm a bit worried. Can vitamin C cause kidney stones, especially in large amounts?

I completely understand why you are worried about this, as kidney stone pain is absolutely terrifying to think about. It is true that very high doses of Vitamin C can increase oxalate levels in urine, which might cause stones in some people. Don't stress too much, just consult your doctor before taking high-dose supplements.

Yeah, it actually can if you are popping high-dose chewable tablets like candy. I learned this the hard way last year when I got a painful kidney stone after self-medicating with 1000mg Vitamin C tablets daily. My doc told me excessive Vitamin C gets converted into oxalate, which forms stones.

This is my biggest fear! I read a post online about this and immediately stopped taking my daily supplements. If you already have a history of stones, please be super careful and ask your doctor. Now I constantly overthink even eating tomatoes or lemons because of this.

I was just reading up on this yesterday! Apparently, our bodies can only absorb a certain amount of Vitamin C, and the rest gets excreted as oxalate, which can bind to calcium and form stones. It seems safe if we stick to natural food sources like lemons, but high-dose pills are where the risk starts.

Yes, taking too much Vitamin C through supplements can sometimes lead to kidney stones. Please don't worry, just drink plenty of water every day and consult a doctor to find the safe limit for you.

Yes, high intake of synthetic Vitamin C can elevate urinary oxalate. To prevent stone formation, it is super important to drink plenty of water and stay active. If your doctor allows, aim for a daily 30-minute brisk walk to keep your circulation and kidney function healthy.

Excessive Vitamin C can definitely increase the risk of calcium oxalate stones. Since I have thyroid issues, I have to get regular blood and urine tests anyway to make sure my calcium and kidney levels are normal. Please follow up with your doctor regularly before starting any high-dose vitamins.

Please don't ignore this. I ignored mild back pain thinking it was just a muscle pull while taking heavy vitamin doses, and it turned out to be a large kidney stone. Get a proper checkup and a urine test done if you have even slight discomfort, it is better to catch it early.

I literally just got treated for a 5mm kidney stone last month, and my urologist told me to stop my daily 1000mg Vitamin C tablets immediately. He said the excess vitamin was converting into oxalates in my kidneys. If you are taking them, please discuss it with your doctor first.

Haan, bilkul sahi suna aapne. Agar bohot zyada high-dose tablets khaoge bina doctor se puche, toh kidney stones ka khatra badh jata hai na. Isliye kehte hain supplements hamesha limits me hi lene chahiye.
