Can verapamil cause weight gain?

My doctor put me on Verapamil for my heart condition. Since then, I've gained some weight, and I can't seem to lose it. Can Verapamil cause weight gain as a side effect?

Yes, weight gain can occur with verapamil, primarily due to fluid retention or a slowed metabolism. It is a known side effect of calcium channel blockers. Don't try self-treating; schedule a consult with your doctor to evaluate if a different class of drug is better for you.

I've been on verapamil for a while and noticed a couple of kilos crease up quickly, mostly because of water weight and mild constipation. It's super annoying but don't stop the medicine on your own. Let your doctor know so they can adjust it.

I noticed some bloating and weight gain after starting this, and at first, I blamed my midnight sandesh cravings! But verapamil actually causes fluid retention which makes you look puffy. Keep an eye on your salt intake and consult your doctor.

Rapid weight gain on verapamil can sometimes indicate fluid retention affecting your heart function. It is very important to get this checked by your doctor immediately, especially if you notice swelling in your ankles or feet.

I can only speak from my own experience, but I gained about three kilos after starting verapamil, mostly due to water retention and a feeling of heaviness. I simply discussed this with my physician during my regular checkup.
