Can uti make pregnancy test positive?

I just took a pregnancy test because my period is late, and it showed a faint positive. But I've also been having some burning sensation while peeing, which makes me think it could be a UTI. Can a UTI make a pregnancy test show positive even if you're not pregnant?

Usually, a UTI won't change the pregnancy test result, but blood or protein in the urine can sometimes make the line look blurry. While drinking tender coconut water helps soothe the bladder, please visit a doctor to treat the infection properly before trying to read too much into home test kits.

I totally get it, waiting for a pregnancy test result while dealing with the discomfort of a UTI can make you so anxious. Generally, a UTI doesn't cause a false positive because the test looks for the hCG hormone, not infection markers. Take a deep breath and maybe test again in a couple of days.

I had a severe UTI during my early pregnancy which I initially misread. A UTI does not cause a false positive, so if the test is positive, you are likely pregnant and need to see a doctor immediately to treat the infection safely without harming the baby.

I agree with others here. A UTI cannot trigger a false positive pregnancy test, so you might actually be pregnant and should confirm with a blood test.

I know how stressful it is to stare at those tiny lines on the test kit and overthink every possible scenario. Rest assured, a UTI won't interfere with the hormone levels that trigger a positive test. Your anxiety is completely valid, but a quick visit to the clinic will give you the clear answer you need.

Instead of buying multiple expensive home kits and guessing, just go to your local diagnostic lab. Ask for a urine routine test and a blood pregnancy test together. It costs under 500 rupees, gives a 100% accurate report, and you can show it to any doctor directly.

No, a UTI will not cause a positive pregnancy test. You should consult a doctor to confirm the pregnancy and treat the UTI.

Simple answer: No. A UTI is a bacterial infection, while pregnancy tests detect the hCG hormone. If the strip is showing two lines, you are most likely pregnant. Go to a lab, get a beta-hCG blood test done, and show it to a gynecologist.
