Can undiagnosed lupus cause weight gain?

A friend of mine is having some strange health issues and doctors are struggling to diagnose her. She also mentioned gaining weight recently. We heard about lupus, and I was wondering, can undiagnosed lupus cause weight gain?

Lupus is a complex auto-immune issue that can cause inflammation and fluid retention, leading to weight changes. While sipping ginger water and eating turmeric helps with mild inflammation, for a condition as serious as lupus, you must get proper clinical tests done under a doctor's guidance.

Please do not try to self-diagnose or ignore these symptoms. Lupus can affect various organs including your kidneys, which might cause severe fluid retention and rapid weight gain. It is highly critical to get evaluated by a rheumatologist for safety.

Like my thyroid condition, autoimmune issues like lupus can really mess up your body's metabolism and cause sudden weight gain or swelling. I highly suggest getting regular autoimmune antibody tests and keeping a close check with your physician.

Yes, lupus-related kidney issues (nephritis) often cause fluid buildup and weight gain. Please consult a doctor immediately to check your kidney function.

I didn't know lupus could cause weight gain, I thought it only caused skin rashes. My aunt has been gaining weight and feeling joint pain lately. Does she need to see a specialist for this, or can a regular doctor test for it?

My cousin was diagnosed with lupus last year after she started blowing up suddenly due to water retention. Turns out her kidneys were stressed. Get an ANA test done as soon as possible, don't wait around.

Lupus can cause fatigue and joint pain, making it hard to move around, which indirectly leads to weight gain. If your doctor allows, try to keep up with very light daily walks or stretching. It helps keep the joints active without putting too much strain on your body.

Listen, don't stress too much about what you read online, okay? It could be something very basic and not lupus at all. Just book a quick doctor's appointment this weekend and clear your head. I'm sure you will be fine!
