Can undiagnosed diabetes cause weight gain?

I've been gaining weight very steadily over the past few months without any major changes to my diet or activity. My blood sugar levels have also been a bit high lately. Can undiagnosed diabetes be a reason for this unexplained weight gain?

In our family, we usually associate diabetes with sudden weight loss, which is what my elder brother faced. However, my doctor mentioned that insulin resistance, which happens before full-blown diabetes, can actually cause significant weight gain around the belly. It is always wise to get your insulin levels and fasting sugar checked.

Please do not ignore this symptom. I delayed getting tested when I was gaining weight and feeling tired, and by the time I was diagnosed, my sugar levels were extremely high and had started affecting my kidneys. Please see a doctor and get a simple Hba1c blood test done immediately.

I have lived with type 2 diabetes for over twenty years now. In the early stages, because our body cannot process glucose properly, we feel hungry all the time and end up eating more, which leads to weight gain. Don't worry, once you start proper medication and walking, it is highly manageable.

Yes, insulin resistance makes your body store fat instead of using it for energy, causing weight gain. Before spending on expensive treatments, just get a basic Rs. 300 fasting sugar test done from any local lab. If the reports are high, then consult a local MD physician for the next steps.

Yes, undiagnosed insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes absolutely cause weight gain because your cells are starving for energy, triggering cravings for carbs. The best way to tackle this is to focus on a low-carb diet, high protein, and consistent strength training, but only after getting a clear prescription from your endocrinologist.

Bro, I was putting on weight like crazy despite working out and keeping a tab on food. Got my blood test done and found out my fasting insulin was through the roof. It's prediabetes. Got it sorted with metformin prescribed by my doc and cutting down sweet stuff.
