Can under eating cause weight gain?

I've been trying to lose weight by eating very little, but I've noticed the opposite happening—I'm actually gaining weight. Someone told me that under-eating can sometimes make you gain weight. Is this true?

While it sounds counterintuitive, extreme calorie restriction can slow down your metabolism as the body tries to conserve energy. However, true long-term weight gain from under-eating is rare and usually points to water retention or hormonal imbalances. I highly recommend consulting a certified nutritionist or a physician to check your metabolic health.

Oh god, please don't starve yourself, it actually ruins your metabolism completely! Your body just holds onto every single calorie because it thinks there is a food shortage. Eat clean, nourishing meals and don't stress too much about the scale, okay?

I used to skip meals thinking I'd lose weight fast, but I ended up gaining weight and feeling constantly exhausted. It turned out my extreme dieting had messed up my thyroid levels. Please don't ignore this, get a full thyroid panel and blood checkup done.

I used to eat very little and still kept gaining weight, which frustrated me so much. When I finally saw a doctor, they diagnosed me with hypothyroidism. If you are eating less and still gaining, please get your TSH levels checked instead of cutting more food.

Haan, bilkul ho sakta hai! When you starve yourself, body starvation mode mein chali jaati hai aur metabolism ekdum slow ho jata hai. Isliye crash dieting mat karo na, dhang se balance khana khao aur thoda workout karo.

My daughter tried those crash diets and ended up getting so weak, yet her weight didn't budge. I had to sit her down and explain that starving the body only causes harm and slows everything down. Please eat three proper homemade meals a day and focus on your strength.
