Can tresiba cause weight gain?

My doctor switched me to Tresiba for my diabetes management a few months back. Since then, I feel like I've gained some weight, almost 3-4 kgs. Is weight gain a common side effect of Tresiba insulin?

Yes, Tresiba can cause some weight gain as your body starts using sugar more efficiently. To counter this, I focus on a high-fiber vegetarian diet with lots of green veggies and avoid simple carbs. Managing your food portions carefully makes a big difference.

I faced sudden weight gain and fluid retention when I first started this insulin. Please see your doctor to adjust the dose rather than self-managing. Ignoring these changes can lead to blood pressure issues and other complications.

Weight gain is a known side effect of long-acting insulin like Tresiba because it improves glucose uptake. You can easily manage this by keeping your daily calories in check and adding light strength training to your routine. Stay active!

If you are noticing a sudden or significant increase in your weight after starting Tresiba, please get it checked by your diabetologist. It could be water retention or an incorrect dosage. It is always safer to let your doctor review your plan.

Insulin medications do tend to increase body weight as the body absorbs sugars better. Along with your regular prescription, try drinking warm cinnamon water in the morning to help support your digestion. Take care and consult your doctor.
