Can too much salt cause weight gain?

I often eat out and rely on processed foods, which I know are high in salt. I've also noticed I've put on a few extra kilos recently, and it's not just from overeating. Can consuming too much salt directly contribute to weight gain?

Yes, absolutely! Too much salt makes your body hold onto water, so you might feel heavier and bloated. Just cut back on the chips and drink more water! 💧✨

Before you spend money on expensive weight loss programs or nutritionists, try cutting out extra salt and drinking more water for a week. It costs absolutely nothing and can quickly show you if it was just water weight.

Sodium causes temporary water retention, which can make the scale go up. It isn't actual fat gain, but to keep your heart healthy, try to limit processed foods and focus on your workouts.

I literally just went through this last week after eating heavy restaurant food for three days. My face was so puffy and I gained 2 kgs overnight, but it all went away once I drank water and ate low-salt home meals.

My doctor at Manipal Hospital clearly told me that heavy sodium intake causes fluid retention, which mimics weight gain. Please ask your physician to explain how sodium levels affect your blood pressure and weight.
