Can too much progesterone cause weight gain?

My doctor has put me on progesterone medication for my PCOS. I've gained quite a bit of weight recently, and I'm wondering if it's related to the medicine. Can too much progesterone cause weight gain?

Please do not rely on random forum advice for hormone-related weight issues. Progesterone can cause water retention and increased appetite, but only a gynecologist can verify this with proper hormone testing. Get your blood work done.

When I was taking hormonal pills, I noticed immediate bloating. I went to Manipal Hospital and my doctor clearly explained that progesterone slows down digestion and causes fluid retention, which feels like weight gain. Talk to your doctor to see if they can adjust your dose.

It can be really hard dealing with sudden body changes due to hormones. Please don't be too stressed; it is often just temporary water retention. Take care of yourself.

At this age, even breathing seems to cause weight gain! But jokes apart, yes, progesterone definitely makes you hold onto water and gives you crazy cravings. It's frustrating, but it gets better once the hormone levels settle down.

My mother used to say that warm cumin water helps reduce hormonal bloating, which is true to an extent. However, for hormonal weight gain, we must always trust our doctor's medical advice over anything else. Do consult your gynaecologist.
