Can too much iodine cause weight gain?

I have been taking iodine supplements for my thyroid issue, as advised by a homeopathic doctor. But I've noticed I'm gaining weight, even though my diet hasn't changed. Could too much iodine be causing this weight gain?

Don't blindly believe people on the internet claiming iodine supplements will fix or cause weight issues. Excess iodine can actually mess up your thyroid function quite badly. Go see a qualified endocrinologist and get your T3, T4, and TSH levels tested properly.

I can only speak from my own journey. I started taking high-dose seaweed supplements thinking it would help my energy, but I ended up gaining weight and feeling extremely sluggish. Once I stopped the supplements and saw my doc, things got back to normal.

Haan, weight gain and thyroid ka directly connection hota hai na. But high iodine intake can actually trigger thyroid issues which eventually cause weight fluctuations. Humare ghar pe toh regular iodized salt hi use karte hain, extra supplements bina doctor se pooche mat lena.

Unless you are eating kelp for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, your daily iodized salt won't make you gain weight! Just relax, eat your regular home-cooked food, and leave the worrying to the doctors.

As vegetarians, we often worry about nutritional deficiencies, but iodine is usually balanced enough in our standard diets. Taking external iodine drops without a prescription can backfire and cause weight gain due to thyroid issues, so stick to natural food sources.

I keep track of my micronutrients on my fitness app and realized that we get plenty of iodine from our daily salt and dairy. Consuming excess iodine through kelp tablets or random drops can lead to thyroid dysfunction, which definitely slows down your metabolism and causes weight gain.

Yes, absolutely. Too much iodine can trigger hypothyroidism, which slows down your metabolic rate and leads to weight gain and fatigue. Get a simple blood test done instead of guessing and taking self-treatments.
