Can too many tums hurt the baby during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and suffering from terrible heartburn, so I've been taking Tums almost daily. My mother-in-law told me to be careful and not take too many medicines. Can taking too many Tums potentially harm the baby during pregnancy?

Yes, taking too many antacids like Tums can cause high calcium levels in your body, which isn't good for you or the baby. For mild acidity, try drinking cold milk or coconut water instead. Always ask your gynecologist about a safe dosage limit.

My wife's gynecologist explained that while calcium carbonate is generally safe in moderate amounts, excess consumption can lead to kidney stones, constipation, and affect the absorption of iron. She strictly advised keeping it under the recommended daily limit and reporting any severe heartburn.

I totally get it, pregnancy acidity is absolutely brutal and you just want some quick relief. But please be careful with how many you take, as high calcium isn't safe. Talk to your doctor, they can give you a safe, pregnancy-friendly syrup instead.

I am in my first trimester and the acidity is already very bad. I was thinking of buying some antacids today, but now I am worried. Is there any natural home remedy that is completely safe for the baby, or should I wait to see my doctor first?

I was super paranoid about this during my second trimester because I was popping antacids almost daily. I panicked thinking I had harmed the baby, but my doctor reassured me and adjusted my diet instead. Please consult your doctor clearly to put your mind at ease.

In our family, elders suggest taking a little fennel seeds (saunf) or buttermilk for acidity during pregnancy. However, since too much calcium can cause complications, it is always best to consult your gynecologist before taking any commercial tablets.

We went to a reputed hospital for my wife's delivery, and the doctors there were very strict about not self-medicating with over-the-counter antacids. Too much calcium carbonate can alter your system. Please ask your gynecologist to prescribe a safe medication.

I understand how stressful it is to worry about every single thing you consume during pregnancy. It is completely normal to feel anxious about the baby's safety. Just reach out to your doctor, get their clear guidance, and you will feel much more relaxed.
