Can tight hamstrings cause knee pain?

My PT told me my hamstrings are really tight. I've been having this dull ache behind my knees, especially after sitting for long. Could these two things be related, yaani, my tight hamstrings causing the knee pain?

Yes, they can. I consulted a specialist at Kokilaben Hospital and he explained that tight hamstrings put constant pressure on the knee joint. You should clearly ask your doctor or a good physical therapist for a targeted routine.

I completely understand how worrying knee pain can be; I used to fear I'd need surgery. But don't panic, very often it is just tight hamstring muscles pulling on the joint. Try stretching them gently and see if it helps.

Yes, tight hamstrings pull on the back of your knee and can cause pain. Daily gentle stretching will bring you good relief.

I see this query quite often here. The hamstrings cross over the knee joint, so when they get tight, they directly restrict knee extension and cause pain. Doing a simple toe-touch stretch daily can work wonders for your knees.

Since I have PCOS, joint stiffness and muscle tightness are quite common for me. Stiff hamstrings can definitely affect how your knee moves and cause pain, but please consult a professional to rule out other issues.
