Can thyroid problems cause weight gain?

Despite eating healthy and exercising, I've been steadily gaining weight over the last year. My friend suggested it could be my thyroid. Can thyroid problems really be the reason for unexplained weight gain?

Drinking warm coriander seed water in the morning can help a bit with water retention, but if your weight gain is due to severe hypothyroidism, you must see a doctor. Home remedies alone cannot fix a hormonal deficiency, so get your blood levels checked.

Yes, it causes a lot of weight gain and bloating. Instead of spending thousands on fancy weight-loss programs, just get a basic thyroid profile test done for 400 rupees. Managing your thyroid levels with cheap daily medicine is the most budget-friendly way to lose this weight.

I used to cry looking at the scale because I was eating healthy but still putting on weight due to my thyroid. It made me feel so defeated. Please don't be hard on yourself, it is the slow metabolism talking, and you are not to blame.

I tried all kinds of detox diets and herbal supplements but nothing stopped the weight gain. Once my doctor finally put me on the right dose of thyroxine, my bloating reduced massively. Use home remedies only as a support, not as a replacement for your main medicine.

My endocrinologist explained that an underactive thyroid slows down your metabolic rate, causing your body to store more calories as fat and hold onto water and salt. Once your TSH levels normalize with correct daily medication, your metabolic rate returns to normal, making weight management much easier.
