Can thyroid issues cause hair loss?

My hair has been falling out quite a lot recently, and it's becoming noticeably thinner all over my head. My wife has thyroid issues and warned me that it can cause hair loss. Is it true that thyroid problems can lead to hair loss?

Yes, thyroid definitely causes heavy hair fall. Once your hormone levels become normal with medicine, the hair fall stops and starts growing back.

I have been noticing so much hair on my brush lately and was reading up on it. Turns out both underactive and overactive thyroid can cause severe hair thinning. I am planning to get my TSH tested this week just to be sure.

I completely understand how heartbreaking it is to see chunks of hair in the shower. I went through this last year, but trust me, once my doctor got my thyroid dose right, the hair fall reduced and my hair thickness actually came back.

Listen, don't stress too much about the hair fall, okay? Stressing about it actually makes it fall out even more! Just get your thyroid levels checked, take your pills, and eat some good food, your hair will recover fine.

With this thyroid, I was worried I'd have to buy a wig soon because my hair was falling like autumn leaves! But don't worry, it's just a phase. Once the doctor adjusts your pill, the hair shedding stops and you get to keep your hair.

In my family, many have managed thyroid. Yes, hair loss is very common because thyroid hormone directly controls hair follicle activity. Be patient, take your daily levothyroxine as prescribed, and give your body three to four months to show improvement.
