Can thyroid issue cause weight gain?

I've noticed a lot of weight gain recently, despite no major changes in my diet or activity. My mother has thyroid issues and always struggled with weight. Could my thyroid be the reason for this unexplained weight gain?

Yes, absolutely, hypothyroidism slows down your metabolism and makes you gain weight very easily. I manage both diabetes and thyroid, and I have to be extremely careful with my carb intake. Keeping track of your TSH levels is key to managing this weight.

It definitely slows down your progress in the gym, but it's not impossible to stay fit. Focus on strength training to boost your metabolism and keep your protein intake good. Once your daily thyroid medication is on point, your hard work in the gym will start showing results.

Haan, weight gain is the classic thyroid gift! I look at a gulab jamun and somehow gain a kilo because of my slow thyroid. Honestly, it takes some effort, but once the doctor fixes your pill dosage, the stubborn weight starts to budge slowly.

My endocrinologist explained that hypothyroidism leads to water retention and a lower basal metabolic rate, which causes weight gain. She told me most of the initial weight gain is actually salt and water rather than pure fat. It gets better once your thyroid hormone levels stabilize.

While weight gain is a very common symptom of hypothyroidism, it can also be due to other underlying hormonal issues. The safest thing is to get a complete thyroid profile and blood test done. Always consult a doctor before starting any supplement.

I was struggling with sudden weight gain for six months and couldn't figure out why. Finally got my thyroid tested, started the medication, and actually managed to shed those extra kilos recently with a basic diet. It's totally reversible once you treat the root cause.

Yes, thyroid definitely causes weight gain, but don't use it as an excuse to ignore your fitness. Even with a busy work schedule, a 30-minute brisk walk and basic portion control can help you manage it. Get your blood work done first to get the right dosage.

Yes, the body sometimes goes through these changes and gains weight when the thyroid gland is sluggish. Just keep a calm mind, practice light breathing exercises, and accept your body as it heals. Proper medical care combined with peace of mind will surely help you.

I ignored my weight gain thinking it was just stress, but my thyroid levels became so bad that it affected my heart rate too. Please don't ignore sudden weight changes. Go see an endocrinologist immediately and get a proper diagnosis.

When I was diagnosed with thyroid thirty years ago, I suddenly put on ten kilos and felt very low. But let me tell you from experience, once you start your daily medicine regularly, your body slowly gets back to its normal rhythm. Don't lose heart, beta.
