Can taking insulin cause weight gain?

With my diabetes, my doctor is considering putting me on insulin. My sister, who also has diabetes, told me that when she started insulin, she put on a lot of weight. Is it really common to gain weight when taking insulin?

I was researching this because my uncle just started insulin therapy. Apparently, as your body starts utilizing glucose properly instead of flushing it out, some weight gain is actually a very normal sign that the treatment is working. It's really interesting how the body works!

Yes, insulin helps your body absorb glucose, which can lead to weight gain if you aren't managing your overall calories. Keeping active with regular strength training and a fiber-rich diet is a great way to manage your body composition while on insulin.

Including cinnamon tea and methi seeds in your diet can naturally help with sugar levels. However, if you experience sudden extreme swelling, breathlessness, or dizziness while taking insulin, please don't try any home remedies and see your doctor immediately.

It is quite common to gain a few kilos when starting insulin because your metabolism is correcting itself. Don't worry, you can easily manage this with portion control and a 30-minute daily walk. Keep sharing your sugar logs with your doctor regularly.

I can only speak from my own journey of taking insulin for the past two years. Initially, I gained about 4 kgs, but once my doctor adjusted my doses and I cut down on my daily rice intake, my weight stabilized nicely.
