Can sulfate free shampoo cause hair loss?

I’ve heard conflicting things about sulfate-free shampoos. Some say they are better for hair, but then a friend mentioned that using them can sometimes cause hair loss. Is there any truth to this?

At my age, hair is leaving me anyway, with or without sulfates! But honestly, sulfate-free shampoos are actually meant to be gentler. If you are losing hair, it might be stress or hard water, not the mild shampoo.

Usually, sulfate-free shampoos are very gentle and don't cause hair loss. However, sometimes they don't clean the scalp oil thoroughly, which can clog pores. Try washing your scalp well or check with a dermatologist.

I started using a sulfate-free shampoo last month and I've noticed more hair fall during washes. Has anyone else felt the same? I'm wondering if I should just go back to my regular shampoo.

Sulfate-free shampoos are fine, but they don't lather much, so people don't wash their hair properly. That leaves dirt and oil on the scalp which causes hair fall. Just clean your scalp thoroughly and don't overcomplicate it.

Sulfate-free formulas are milder, but they sometimes leave product buildup if you use heavy oils or styling creams. This buildup can occasionally lead to scalp irritation and hair fall. Try using a clarifying wash once a week.

Oh no, is this really a thing? I just bought an expensive sulfate-free shampoo hoping it would fix my frizz! Now I'm worried it might cause hair fall instead. Let me know if you find a safe brand.

I totally feel your pain, seeing hair in the drain is so depressing. I switched to sulfate-free thinking it would save my hair, but it actually made it worse because my scalp got too greasy. You are not alone in experiencing this.
