Can sudden weight loss cause hair loss?

I've recently started a strict diet and lost a good amount of weight quickly. But now, I'm noticing a lot more hair falling out than usual. Can sudden weight loss lead to hair loss?

Yes, absolutely! It is very common and usually called telogen effluvium. When you lose weight too fast, your body goes into shock and shifts focus away from hair growth. Don't worry, it usually gets better once your nutrition is back on track!

Yes, a sudden drop in weight can cause severe hair fall. Before buying expensive hair oils or serums, I suggest getting a basic blood test for iron and vitamin D, which costs around 800 rupees. Addressing the internal deficiency is much cheaper and more effective in the long run.

My daughter went on a strict crash diet last year and lost 8 kgs in a month, and her hair started falling out in clumps. We got so worried! I started giving her almonds, eggs, and regular home-cooked meals, and her hair slowly recovered. Please focus on proper nutrition.

Yes, sudden weight loss puts the body under immense stress, which frequently triggers temporary hair loss. Improving your protein intake usually helps.

I totally understand how heartbreaking it is to see so much hair fall. Along with eating a nutritious diet, you can try applying mild homemade onion juice or massaging lukewarm coconut oil once a week. Be gentle on your scalp and avoid harsh chemical shampoos.

I went through this exact phase when I did extreme intermittent fasting a couple of years ago. My weight dropped fast, but my hair thinned out crazy. For me, it only stopped once I started eating balanced meals with enough protein again.
