Can stress and anxiety cause weight gain?

I've noticed I'm gaining weight even though I'm trying to eat healthy and exercise. I'm also under a lot of family stress these days; can this stress and anxiety actually lead to weight gain?

Yes, stress leads to high cortisol levels, which can slow down your metabolism and increase fat storage, especially around the belly. While lifestyle changes help, consulting a doctor or a certified nutritionist is the best way to address hormonal weight issues scientifically.

I can only speak from my own experience, but I gained nearly 7 kgs during a very high-stress project last year because I was constantly stress-eating chips and sweets at midnight. Once the project ended and I relaxed, my weight slowly started coming back to normal.

I tried drinking warm lemon honey water and cinnamon teas for months to lose my stress weight, but nothing worked until I actually addressed my mental anxiety. Warm teas are great for soothing your nerves, but you have to actively work on reducing your life's daily stress too.

Stress definitely drives up cravings for simple carbs and sugary foods. When you feel anxious, try to snack on roasted makhana, nuts, or cucumber slices instead of fried items. Keeping healthy vegetarian snacks nearby makes a big difference.

Managing my diabetes has taught me how closely stress, insulin levels, and weight gain are connected. High stress raises blood sugar and makes insulin resistance worse, leading to stubborn weight gain. Please check with your doctor before starting any strict diets.

Bro, stress-eating is real. Whenever I am tensed about my career, I end up ordering burgers and colas late at night. That unhealthy habit coupled with high cortisol levels made me gain so much weight recently.

I was researching this yesterday and read that anxiety triggers our body's fight-or-flight mode, making us crave high-calorie foods for quick energy. It's crazy how our brain's emotional state can directly dictate our physical size like that.
