Can simvastatin cause hair loss?

I've been taking simvastatin for my cholesterol for a few months now, and I've noticed quite a bit of hair loss recently. Could this medication be the cause? Can simvastatin actually cause hair loss as a side effect?

I have been taking cholesterol medicines for over fifteen years now. While minor hair thinning can happen to some, it is usually temporary, and keeping your heart safe is far more important. Don't worry, talk to your doctor about alternatives.

Please keep a positive mind and don't let this worry you. Sometimes our body takes time to adjust to new medicines, and stress only increases hair fall. Take care of your diet and speak to your doctor gently about this.

My father experienced some hair fall when he started simvastatin. My mother suggested applying pure coconut oil, which helped a bit, but we ultimately consulted his cardiologist who adjusted his dosage safely.

I totally understand how stressful it is to see your hair thinning after starting a new medication. It is a documented but rare side effect of statins, so please speak to your physician instead of worrying about it constantly.

Since I manage both diabetes and cholesterol, I have to take statins daily. I noticed some thinning, but keeping my blood sugar and diet strictly balanced with curry leaves and amla has helped me maintain my hair health while keeping my heart safe.

My aunt had this exact issue last year with her cholesterol meds. Her doctor switched her to a different statin, and her hair fall stopped completely within a few weeks, so definitely ask your doctor about other options.
