Can sibo cause weight gain?

I was diagnosed with SIBO a few months ago and have been trying to manage it. Lately, I've noticed I'm gaining weight despite not changing my diet much. My friend mentioned SIBO could be linked to weight gain. Is it true, can SIBO actually cause you to gain weight?

It can indeed cause unexpected weight gain and heavy bloating, which is very frustrating. Please don't be too hard on yourself, and focus on getting your gut tested by a specialist.

Yes, especially if it is methane-dominant SIBO, which slows down your digestion significantly. This slow transit time leads to more calorie extraction and severe bloating, making you feel and look heavier.

While many associate SIBO with weight loss, methane-producing bacteria actually cause constipation and metabolic slowdown, leading to weight gain. It is best to consult a gastroenterologist for a proper breath test to confirm.

The intense bloating from SIBO can definitely look like weight gain. If your doctor allows, try to go for a brisk 30-minute walk daily as it helps stimulate gut motility and keeps your metabolism active.

Haan na, even after eating so little, you suddenly feel so heavy and bloated. SIBO completely messes up our digestion process. You should definitely check this with a good doctor.
