Can shingles cause hair loss?

I'm a little worried because after having shingles last year, I've noticed significant hair loss, especially on my scalp. Could shingles be the cause of this hair loss, or is it just a coincidence? I'm really concerned about it.

Shingles itself doesn't directly cause hair loss unless the painful rash is on your scalp and damages the hair follicles. The extreme physiological stress of dealing with the intense pain can also trigger temporary shedding called telogen effluvium. It's best to consult a dermatologist for a proper recovery plan.

Any scalp infection or extreme nerve pain should be monitored carefully. If you are noticing hair falling out from the shingles area, please get it checked by your doctor to ensure there is no secondary bacterial infection ruining the roots.

I totally get it, dealing with shingles pain is already so exhausting, and seeing hair fall on top of that is incredibly stressful. The body goes through a lot of trauma during this infection, which can cause temporary hair thinning. Please don't worry, it usually grows back once you heal.

Don't stress too much about the hair fall right now. When the body is fighting a heavy virus like shingles, it diverts all energy to healing, which can temporarily cause some hair loss. Just eat healthy, take your rest, and let the medicines do their job. I'm sure you will be fine.

The stress from shingles can definitely cause hair shedding, but do check your thyroid levels as well. When my thyroid went out of whack after a major viral illness, my hair started thinning rapidly. It is always wise to get a full blood panel done during your doctor follow-ups.

Listen, if shingles is on your face or scalp, some hair shedding around the blisters can happen because of skin damage. Stop worrying about cosmetic things for now and focus entirely on finishing your antiviral medicine course. Once your body recovers, your hair will also return to normal.

Shingles and its pain can put a lot of physical stress on the body, which sometimes causes hair shedding and even spikes your blood pressure. Focus on a peaceful routine, eat nutritious food, and keep checking in with your doctor. Your body needs care and time to recover fully.
