Can saw palmetto cause hair loss?

After starting saw palmetto capsules for my hair thinning, hoping it would help, I feel like I'm actually losing more hair lately. Is it possible that saw palmetto can cause hair loss as a side effect?

Actually, saw palmetto is usually taken to reduce hair loss, not cause it, yaar. It basically blocks DHT, which is the main culprit for balding. But if you are experiencing more shedding after starting it, it could just be an initial phase or some other hormonal imbalance. Better to ask a derma once before continuing.

Beta, saw palmetto is not our traditional herb, it is mostly used in Western medicine. If you are worried about thinning hair, focus on nourishing your scalp with mild warm coconut oil or amla juice. Sometimes these modern tablets disturb your body's natural balance. Please consult a qualified ayurvedic or regular doctor first.

My college-going son was researching this supplement last year for his thinning crown. Honestly, we got scared of the random side effects online, so I stopped him from buying it. We went to a proper dermatologist instead who diagnosed his dandruff and fixed the issue with a simple medicated lotion. Please don't let them self-medicate with strong supplements.

I used saw palmetto for six months and had the exact same worry because my hair shedding increased in the first month. My doctor told me it was just temporary shedding of weak hairs before stronger ones grow back. It stopped after some time, but definitely don't take it blindly without checking your basic vitamin levels first.

For hair issues, I always trust a good diet with curry leaves and soaked almonds first rather than these pills. Saw palmetto shouldn't cause hair loss theoretically, but everyone's body reacts differently. If you notice heavy hair fall, scalp pain, or any hormonal issues, stop taking it immediately and go to a doctor.

Oh my god, I was literally thinking of buying this supplement today for my thinning hair, but now I'm scared. Has anyone actually lost more hair after starting saw palmetto? Please tell me if it is safe to try or if I should just stay away from it altogether.
