Can rosuvastatin cause weight gain?

Since I started taking Rosuvastatin for my cholesterol a few months back, I've put on a few kilos. I eat healthy and exercise, so I'm wondering if this medicine could be making me gain weight.

There are some studies showing a very slight link between statins and a small increase in blood sugar, which might occasionally lead to minor weight changes. However, when I asked my cardiologist, he told me that any noticeable weight gain is usually due to lifestyle changes or thyroid issues rather than the pill itself. He advised keeping a close check on diet and getting a thyroid panel if needed.

My dad started taking Rosuvastatin last year and he did put on a bit of a belly, but honestly, I think it is because he stopped going for his morning walks and started eating more sweets! I don't think the pill directly causes it unless you stop being active.

In our age, metabolic changes are common, and these modern medicines can sometimes make you feel a bit heavy. Along with your daily pill, try having a glass of warm water with a little lemon in the morning, and eat simple, light meals. Do not stop your heart medicine without asking your doctor first, beta.

Oh, tell me about it! I blamed my Rosuvastatin for the 3 kgs I gained, but my doctor laughed and said it was my love for hot samosas. In all seriousness, it might cause a tiny metabolic shift, but mostly we just need to watch our portions as we grow older.

I am too tired to even look at the scale, but I haven't noticed any sudden weight gain since starting this statin. If I did gain weight, it is probably from the midnight snacks I eat because I can't sleep! If you are really worried, just ask your doctor during your next visit.
