Can psoriasis make your hair fall out?

My scalp psoriasis is quite severe, and I've noticed a significant amount of hair shedding recently. It's making me really anxious. Can psoriasis make your hair fall out, or is it something else I should be worried about?

Hey! Yes, it definitely can if it's on your scalp, but don't worry because it usually grows back once the flare-up settles down 🌸 Try not to scratch the scales too hard, that makes it worse. A good mild shampoo suggested by a skin doc really does wonders!

Honestly, dealing with hair issues is so stressful, I get it since I face similar thinning due to my PCOS. From what I have read and seen with friends, scalp psoriasis can cause temporary shedding if you scratch or pull the plaques. It is best to consult a dermatologist before trying random oils, as some things can irritate the scalp even more.

Actually I was just reading up on this because my cousin has scalp issues. Psoriasis itself doesn't kill the hair follicles, but the constant itching, scratching, and heavy scaling can break the hair shafts or pull them out. Once you get the inflammation under control with a proper doc's treatment, the hair usually starts coming back normally.

Beta, don't panic. Scalp psoriasis hair fall is very common but it's temporary in most cases. The key is to be extremely gentle when oiling or washing your hair, and never forcefully peel the dry flakes. Just stick to the medication your doctor gives and have patience, your hair will recover.

Arey yes, it can make your hair pack its bags and leave temporarily if you keep scratching it like a maniac! Trust me, treat your scalp like a delicate flower for a few weeks. Keep your hands off the scales and let the dermatologist do their magic, your hair will return from its vacation soon.

My grandmother used to say we should apply pure coconut oil with a little camphor for scalp scaling, which does give mild relief from the dryness. But for psoriasis, you must definitely consult a proper skin specialist. The hair fall is just because of the dry patches, so once the doctor helps clear the skin, the hair fall stops automatically.
