Can pregnancy cause hot flashes?

I've been waking up in sweats and feeling really hot suddenly during the day, even when the AC is on. I thought hot flashes were for menopause, but I'm pregnant. Is it possible for pregnancy to cause hot flashes?

Yes, sudden heat waves are very common during pregnancy. My daughter is going through this right now, she suddenly starts sweating in the middle of the night. We just keep her room well-ventilated and make sure she drinks plenty of coconut water.

Oh yes! Hot flashes are super common because your hormones are fluctuating like crazy. You might suddenly feel like you are sitting in an oven even in an AC room! Wear light cotton clothes and keep a bottle of cold water nearby.

Yes, it is very common due to hormonal shifts. Try to stay in cool environments and drink lots of fluids, but do inform your doctor.

My mother told me to drink buttermilk to cool the body down when these hot flashes happen. It definitely brought me some comfort during my days. But please discuss it with your doctor to make sure your thyroid and other levels are fine.

Yes, hot flashes affect more than one-third of pregnant women. My wife's doctor explained that the surge in hormones affects the hypothalamus, which regulates body temperature. The doctor advised us to dress in layers and avoid spicy foods to manage it.

My wife faced sudden sweating and heat flashes in her second trimester. We consulted her OB-GYN at the hospital, and she confirmed it is standard hormonal behavior, but checked her blood pressure just to be sure. Better to ask your doctor clearly.

Honestly, waking up drenched in sweat at 3 AM is just part of the pregnancy package. My wife would turn the AC down to 16 degrees while I was shivering under two blankets! It is completely normal, just try to get some sleep whenever you can.
