Can pregnancy cause breast cancer?

My friend recently had a scare with a lump in her breast during her pregnancy, and it made me really worried. My mother had breast cancer, so I'm very conscious about it. Can pregnancy actually cause or increase the risk of breast cancer?

Please don't worry or let your mind jump to the worst conclusion. Pregnancy itself does not cause breast cancer; in fact, having a full-term pregnancy and breastfeeding actually reduces your long-term risk. If you noticed a lump, it is likely just a harmless clogged milk duct, but get your doctor to check it to be absolutely sure.

I have also been feeling some strange hardness in my left breast and I am honestly terrified. Did anyone else experience hard lumps during their pregnancy that turned out to be completely fine? I have booked an appointment for tomorrow but I can't sleep.

My sister went through a major scare during her pregnancy when she felt a hard lump in her breast. She rushed to her doctor and it turned out to be just a harmless cyst due to pregnancy hormone changes. Don't stress out, but definitely get a doctor to feel it.

I had a prominent lump during my second trimester and was extremely anxious. My gynaecologist got an ultrasound done, and it was just a benign fibroadenoma influenced by pregnancy hormones. Pregnancy doesn't cause cancer, but changes are common, so get an ultrasound done to be safe.

When my daughter was pregnant, she found a painful lump and we both panicked. The doctor explained that milk glands are growing and changing rapidly, which often causes non-cancerous lumps or blocks. A quick checkup at the clinic resolved our doubts, so please get it examined without worrying.
