Can pregnancy bring on asthma?

I've never had breathing problems before, but since I'm pregnant, I've noticed I get short of breath very easily, sometimes even a little wheezy. My cousin developed asthma during her pregnancy. Is it possible for pregnancy to cause new asthma symptoms?

I never had breathing issues before, but during my second trimester, I started wheezing quite a bit, especially at night. My doctor had to prescribe a mild inhaler which I used safely until my delivery. It went away on its own after my baby was born.

Yes, pregnancy changes your lung capacity as the baby grows and pushes upward. I suggest tracking your daily breath patterns and checking your oxygen levels with a basic pulse oximeter if you feel short of breath. There are great breathing apps that help you manage shallow breathing.

I recently delivered my baby and had developed seasonal wheezing during my pregnancy. My doctor explained that immune changes in pregnancy can make you more sensitive to allergens. Regular saline nasal sprays and avoiding dust helped me get through it.

Oh, that sounds so uncomfortable! My cousin went through the same thing last year and was so scared of using an inhaler while pregnant. But her doctor reassured her that using the inhaler is much safer for the baby than struggling to breathe. Do get it checked out!

It can be very scary to feel short of breath when you are expecting. Please sit upright, rest as much as you can, and consult your doctor as soon as possible. Take care of yourself.

Beta, when the baby grows, it naturally presses against your chest and makes breathing a bit tight. You can try inhaling steam with a little mint or ajwain to clear your chest, but never take any new medicines without asking your doctor first.

Actually, pregnancy can trigger asthma symptoms even if you didn't have it before, or make existing asthma worse yaar. The hormones change a lot of things inside. Don't take it lightly, just tell your gynaecologist about it so they can guide you.

Medical studies show that about one-third of pregnant women find their asthma symptoms get worse, while some develop new-onset wheezing. My wife's pulmonologist explained that keeping asthma controlled during pregnancy is crucial so the baby gets enough oxygen. Please get your lung function evaluated properly.
