Can pregnancy affect eyesight?

I am in my second trimester, and lately, I feel like my vision has become a little blurry sometimes. My friend told me this is common in pregnancy. Is it true that eyesight can change during this time?

I freaked out in my second trimester because my reading glasses suddenly felt useless. I thought my vision was permanently ruined, but my doctor told me it is just water retention in the eyes. Sure enough, everything went back to normal a few weeks after delivery.

Yes, dry eyes and minor vision shifts are quite common during pregnancy due to hormonal changes affecting corneal thickness. Try tracking your daily screen time and water intake on an app. Staying hydrated really helps manage the dryness.

I had terrible dry eyes during my pregnancy and tried placing cool cucumber slices and wet cotton pads on my closed eyes, which gave great temporary relief. But please don't get new prescription glasses right now. Your eye shape changes slightly during this time, so wait till after delivery.

My ophthalmologist explained that pregnancy hormones can change fluid dynamics in your eyes, causing mild blurriness or dry eyes. However, she strictly warned that if you see sudden spots, flashes, or have severe blurriness, you must check your blood pressure immediately as it could be preeclampsia.

Beta, in our days we were told to rest our eyes and avoid straining them during pregnancy. You can wash your eyes with clean, cool water to soothe the dryness, but do not put any home drops. It is always best to let the doctor have a look.

If you are planning to get your eyes checked, don't rush to buy expensive new glasses right away because this vision shift is usually temporary. Just get a basic, low-cost eye checkup at a local clinic first to ensure your eye pressure is fine, rather than spending on premium lenses now.
