Can pre diabetics drink alcohol?

I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes a few months ago and I'm trying to make lifestyle changes. My friends are having a party next week, and I'm wondering if it's completely off-limits to have any alcohol, or if pre-diabetics can have a little bit sometimes?

Honestly, I am too tired to even think about a drink most days, but when I do have one, my blood sugar goes all over the place. Alcohol with prediabetes is like inviting a chaotic guest who might crash your system or make u super sleepy. If you must drink, don't do it on an empty stomach unless you want a massive sugar crash.

Buying booze is one expense, but the HbA1c tests and doctor consults afterward cost way more if your sugar levels spike out of control. I always plan my expenses, and keeping prediabetes under check saves so much money in the long run. If you drink, stick to basic sugar-free mixers and keep it very occasional so you don't end up paying for extra clinic visits.

Actually, it really depends on your overall health parameters and what medications, if any, you are on. Alcohol can interfere with how your liver releases glucose, which is tricky with prediabetes. It is best to have an open conversation with your doctor about this so they can guide you safely.

I always say if your doc gives the green light for a light drink, make sure you balance it out. Whenever I have a small drink, I make it a point to go for a brisk 20-minute walk the next morning to keep my insulin sensitivity high. Just don't let alcohol ruin your daily exercise flow!

I tracked my glucose levels using a CGM app last time I had a couple of drinks, and the sudden spike and drop was eye-opening. Sweet cocktails are the worst culprits because of the hidden sugars. Try tracking your diet on an app to see how much liquid carbs you are consuming before deciding on alcohol.
