Can plaquenil cause hair loss?

I started taking Plaquenil a few months ago for my condition, and I've noticed significant hair shedding since then. I'm worried if this medicine is causing it. Is hair loss a known side effect of Plaquenil?

Yes, it can cause hair thinning in some people. Instead of buying expensive hair oils, try eating a handful of soaked almonds and keeping your scalp clean. It is a simple, budget-friendly way to support hair health while on medication.

Hello! Yes, hair loss is a known but less common side effect of Plaquenil. I often tell forum members to discuss this with their rheumatologist, as they can sometimes adjust the dose or suggest a safe supplement to help.

Haan na, my cousin was taking it for autoimmune issues and noticed a lot of hair fall. It can be quite stressful, but usually, the hair starts growing back once the body gets used to the medicine.

Losing chunks of hair while already dealing with a chronic illness was so emotionally draining for me. I felt like I was losing my identity. I completely understand how hard this is for you, please be gentle with yourself.

Hair thinning can happen, but please get a proper blood panel done under medical supervision. It is important to rule out other medical causes before blaming the medication entirely.

In my years, I have seen many people face this issue with long-term medicines. Don't worry, the hair thinning is mostly temporary. Once your main health issue gets stabilized, your body will recover its strength.

Yes, I experienced this too. Adding a biotin supplement with my doctor's approval helped slow down the shedding.

Yes, it is a documented side effect. But don't stop the drug on your own because managing your autoimmune condition is far more critical. Go straight to your rheumatologist and ask for a hair-safe alternative if it is too severe.

Don't trust random onion juice remedies or online tips for this. Plaquenil is a serious drug, and any side effects like hair loss should be evaluated directly by your prescribing doctor to ensure your safety.

I was put on this drug last year and my hair fall shot up within two months. I was super stressed, but my doc told me it's temporary telogen effluvium. It stopped after a while, so just hang in there.

Before spending money on expensive dermatologist visits or serums, ask your government hospital doctor to check your thyroid and iron levels first. Sometimes hair loss is just a simple nutritional deficiency that costs very little to fix.
