Can oily hair cause dandruff?

My hair gets oily very quickly, and I have to wash it almost every day. I also tend to get dandruff frequently. Is there a connection between having oily hair and developing dandruff?

I used to feel so self-conscious because of my oily scalp and the constant white flakes on my black tops. It felt like no matter how much I washed my hair, it just stayed greasy and itchy. Don't feel bad about it, it's very common and can be managed with the right shampoo.

I had a similar issue and went to the dermatology department at Max Hospital. The doctor clearly explained that the dandruff fungus actually feeds on the natural oils of our scalp, which makes oily hair a prime target. You should definitely ask a dermatologist for a medicated wash.

Please be careful with an extremely oily scalp. I ignored my greasy dandruff for months, and it turned into a severe fungal infection called seborrheic dermatitis, which caused terrible hair fall. Please see a skin specialist before it gets complicated.

Bro same issue here, if I don't wash my hair for two days, it gets super oily and the itching starts. My gym buddy told me that the oil buildup just traps all the dirt and causes flakes. I started using a basic salicylic acid shampoo twice a week and it helps.

In my experience, oily hair definitely triggers dandruff for me. Whenever I apply heavy hair oils and leave them overnight, my scalp gets super greasy and flaky the next day. Now I only do light oiling for an hour before washing, and it keeps my scalp much cleaner.

Does anyone else get severe itching along with greasy hair? I always thought dandruff only happens on dry scalps, so I kept putting more oil, but my scalp just got stickier and itchier. Am I doing it wrong? Really worried I might lose hair because of this.

Hey, chill, it is absolutely normal. Yes, an oily scalp actually encourages the growth of the yeast that causes dandruff, so keeping your scalp clean is key. Don't worry, just use a mild anti-dandruff shampoo and avoid putting heavy oils for a few weeks.

Don't start applying lemon, curd, or random home remedies you read online, they can irritate your scalp even more. Dandruff on an oily scalp is usually fungal, so it's best to verify with a proper dermatologist. Let them prescribe the right medical shampoo.

Keep your mind calm and peaceful, my dear. Stress often reflects on our skin and hair health, making it too oily or dry. Eat clean, fresh food, keep your scalp clean, and let nature heal your body. Take care of yourself.

My head is like an oil refinery sometimes, honestly! And yes, that oil is basically a five-star buffet for dandruff-causing fungi. Just wash it regularly so they don't throw a party up there. No need to stress, a good shampoo will sort it out!
