Can methotrexate make your hair fall out?

I'm about to start methotrexate for my rheumatoid arthritis. My biggest worry is hair loss, as I've heard it can be a side effect. Can methotrexate really make your hair fall out?

Yes, methotrexate can cause hair thinning because it affects fast-growing cells. You can try gentle oiling with coconut oil and amla, but definitely talk to your doctor about taking a proper folic acid supplement to control it.

I faced severe hair shedding when I started my weekly methotrexate dose. My doctor adjusted my folic acid dosage, and the shedding stopped after a few weeks. Don't worry, the hair does grow back once the body adjusts.

I know how heartbreaking it is to see clumps of hair in the shower, it made me want to stop the medicine entirely. Please know that your feelings are valid, but don't stop taking it without discussing it with your rheumatologist first.

I tracked my hair loss and weekly doses on my health app and noticed a pattern. Taking the prescribed folic acid exactly 24 hours after methotrexate really minimized the hair fall. Highly recommend tracking your symptoms to show your doctor.

Yes, hair loss is a very common side effect of methotrexate. Taking folic acid as prescribed by your doctor helps reduce this.
