Can metformin make your hair fall out?

I've been noticing significant hair fall recently, and it's making me quite worried. I also take Metformin for my PCOS. Is there any chance that Metformin could be making my hair fall out?

My daughter started metformin for her PCOS and her hair started shedding like crazy. We were so worried! Our dermatologist explained it can cause a Vitamin B12 deficiency which leads to hair loss, so we started a supplement and it really helped.

I faced severe hair thinning after six months on metformin. My doctor told me to check my B12 and iron levels immediately. Getting those corrected, along with a high-protein diet, stopped the shedding completely. Don't panic, just get your blood levels checked.

I completely understand how stressful it is to see your hair thinning while taking a new medicine, it can really mess with your mental peace. While metformin itself doesn't directly cause hair loss, the stress of the underlying condition or a B12 drop can. Hang in there, it gets better.

Do not let fear consume you, as stress itself is a major cause of hair fall. Nourish your body with good food, practice some deep breathing, and consult your doctor to see if a simple vitamin supplement is needed. Take care of yourself.

Oh my god, same! I was so stressed about losing my hair when I started my PCOS treatment. Actually, my doctor said the hair fall was due to the hormonal imbalance itself, not the metformin. Give the medicine some time to balance your hormones and the hair fall will reduce.
